The Methodist church of Nigeria has warned Christians against involvement in homosexuality, describing it as devilish, evil and satanic.
The Methodist Archbishop of Umuahia diocese ,His Grace Most Rev.Dr Chibuzo Raphael Opoko ,who made this known to pressmen ,after their 58th Annual synod ,with the theme ‘Obedience to God ,better than sacrifice’ held at Methodist Wesley cathedral Umuahia ,urged Christians to run away from such evil ,saying the church is totally against it.
In his words , ” The stand of the church is that there is no room for homosexuality. Anyone thinking of homosexuality is not only devilish ,but evil and satanic ” he said.
Archbishop Opoko appealed to the press in the country to help the church by avoid celebration of evil in the society. “
“I call for a responsible media that will stop the celebration of evil or devilish acts .It has to stop “
He called on Federal government to avoid using taxpayers money to sponsor an ethnic radio ,describing it as a form of corruption ,even as he called on the federal government under president Buhari to do something about that . ” President Buhari took over a united Nigeria, I hope he leaves the country a united nation “
Opoko called for a genuine restructuring ,saying if there is a genuine restructuring ,it will allow Nigeria to grow ,adding that the country is having problems because there is much more power at the center ,” I am calling for a genuine restructuring, adding that ,” If there were ,justice in this nation ,no group will be involved in agitation .If there is genuine restructuring, Nigeria will be like Dubai and you will see development. I am calling for restructuring ,because it is a viable option “
On the issue of depression and suicide cases going on in the country ,he said , ” the synod calls on the federal and state government to be responsible ,reminding them that one day ,they will stand before God in judgment, government is not living up to their responsibilities ,there is high rate of unemployment among the youths ,hence sense of patriotism has gone ,we call on government that enough of these suicide cases in the country “
He urged parents to monitor what their children watch and what they read online ,the different sites ,they visit ,saying “suicide today among the youths ,also stem from some online sites and blogs they visit ,noting that synod calls on parents to monitor their children, because most of the suicide cases are induced by online sites they visit “
