The Catholic Women Organization, Umuahia Diocese has raised funds to empower the indigent members among them to start off small scale businesses as means of livelihood.
Addressing Newsmen during this year 2019 Catholic women organization day at Mater Dei cathedral Umuahia ,the president of the Catholic women organization, Lady Victoria Adaora Aliba ,lamented that ,” we know that the country is very hard ,so we decided to look in wards to help the indigent and less-privilged ones among us “
According to her ” ,it is good to help them ,we train them in different hand work and support them to start off. It is a way of encouraging them as our members ” We also gave out foodstuffs to encourage them to serve God “
Lady Aliba stated that the Catholic women organization Umuahia consists of all the women in the seven Deaneries in the Diocese with aims and objectives of spiritual growth through personal sanctification of the members, extensive charity to the needy and less privileged in the society and economic empowerment of the members .
She said the theme of this year’s seminar is ‘ catholic women called to holiness to sanctify the world holistic Development’ ” hence our call as Catholic mothers ,require us to be courteous in all we do ,we ought to work hard to inculcate in our children the right attitudes towards life .We should shun fraudulent lifestyle and encourage our children to be hardworking. Let us be role models to our children and society at large “
Lady disclosed that some of their members were given award of recognition for their contributions towards the growth of the church and spread of the gospel.
Addressing Newsmen,the president of the Catholic Christian fathers Organization ,sir Titus Ahaoma Agomuo ,applauded the women, noting that it is important that the women are supported in their efforts to help the Needy ,even as he urged government to introduce policies and programs that will help the Needy in the society,while HRH Eze Dr Lawrence Eluwa of Olokoro ,who is the Royal father of the day ,praised the women for their good plans for the church of Christ, urging them to continue in their good works .
The Umuahia Diocesan Council chairman,Prof Chris Chinaka, described the CWO as one of the Pius organizations in the church, which is use to raise support for the Church, the Needy ,and to solve other problems in the church,saying he was there to lend his support to them.
He frowned at the crop of leaders in charge of Nigeria now ,saying the country is moving backwards and Nigerians are passing through hard times ,hence the need to support the Needy, even as he urged the government to have rethink on their policies that are impoverishing the people
In their separate speeches, the Catholic women who were given awards for their contributions to the growth of the church ,expressed joy over the recognitions given to them, while promising to continue to work harder.In her reaction, Professor Mrs Elechi Asagwaram has this to say ,” I will work harder in the same way ,I have been working and I encourage others not to hesitate to work for God ” For Lady Rosemary Nneka Igboekwe ,” I am happy that they appreciated my effort and contributions to the church ” For Mrs Kate Ogba ,” I am excited immensely for this award ” while Uba Felicia Uchenwa said ,” God has been faithful ,I thank God and our women for the award “
In the same vein,Nneoha Beatrice Okafor said ,” I am very happy and good to serve God ” for miss Eucharia Orji ,who spoke on behalf of her mother Mrs Elizabeth Orji,” I am so excited for the award, my mother has served for a very time and we thank God for the privilege ,I will follow my mother steps ” and for Ugoeze lady Comfort Ebebe ,” am happy and my prayer is for God to help others ” For Christiana Nkechi Emenike ,” I am so happy, I urge other women to work for God ” In addition ,” Mrs Rose Ezinna Nzeako ,” I am so happy for the award, I will continue to serve God ” while Lolo Ify Okonkwo ,” I am excited and will continue to serve God ” and for Lady Stephin Ifeoma Ezenwa and Mrs Roseline U.Eneh ,” we are happy for the award “
In his speech ,the chairman of the occasion, chief Nnaoha Sir F.N.Njoku ,described women as things of pride to the church, while commending them for all their efforts and contributions to the church and preaching of the gospel of God .
Sir Njoku commended women for their plan to empower the less privileged ,even as he urged the youths to be faithful and ask for help to those who can help them.
He called on the privileged parents in the society to reach out to the less privileged in the society, especially the children of the poor .
Earlier In his homily, the Vicar general ,Rev. Monsignor Gabriel KANU who celebrated the church service on behalf of the Catholic Bishop of Umuahia ,Most Rev .Dr .Lucius Ugorji commended the Catholic women ,describing the CWO day celebration as the tradition of the Roman Catholic church.
He seized the opportunity to eulogize the fallen members of the CWO ,who are not part of the event ,while encouraging the president of the CWO and the women leaders in the Diocese to continue in serving God
