The Endo Industry Limited has kicked off the cleaning of the water drainage systems in Umuahia municipal, while appealing to residents to give them the necessary support.
Addressing Newsmen after the flag off ceremony at Umuahia, the Chief Executive officer and chairman Endo industry limited, chief Indubuisi Emeh ,disclosed that ,” we are partnering with the Abia State Roads Maintenance Agency .This job was awarded to us by the Governor of Abia state and we promised to deliver .We are officially Flagging -off the job ,as you can see the Residents here are happy to see the government presence .We have come with our heavy equipment ,which we are using .Before that ten months elapse ,we will be able to complete the job and I am happy to partner with ABROMA “. he noted
According to him , ” it is not our duty to start pursuing people ,who built their houses on the drainage ways ,it is the Abia State Environmental Agency that is in charge of that “
He however, called on parents to caution their children about blocking the drainage ways ,added that such actions attract penalties
Engineer Emeh ,promised to deliver on the job on time . His words ,” For this job ,we will give the best .As you can see ,we have gone round and see some vital areas that need the attention of the Governor. Something that was built before the civil war” he said.
In his speech ,the General Manager and Chief Executive Officer ,Abia State Roads Maintenance Agency (ABROMA ) ,Engineer Okochi Okali Oge ,who performed the flag -off ceremony and hand- over of the contract documents to the Chief Executive Officer ,Endo Industry Limited, Chief Ndubuisi Emeh, at Kaduna street by Umuwaya Road Umuahia ,hinted that the Endo Industry limited workers are there to ensure that the drainage systems built years back are properly clean and open
He said, the Governor of Abia state Dr Okezie Ikpeazu is committed to driving infrastructural development in the entire State .
His words ,” Recently his Excellency the Executive Governor of Abia state, Dr Okezie Victor Ikpeazu has been on the drive for infrastructural development and one of the drives for infrastructural development is to maintain ,the already existing ones and I learnt that for so many years after the building of Umuahia municipal town ,some of the drainage systems have not been touched ,So he thought it wise to make sure that all the drainage systems are open, so that during the raining season, there will be free flow of water “
He appealed to the Landlords and Residents of the areas involved to participate and support in the area of removal of things that are not needed around the drainage ways.
He pointed out that ,” We are not here to destroy anybody’s property intentionally .We are here to make sure that the drainages are well -channelled to avoid further damages “
In his reaction, a landlord in that area,Chief Sir Cletus Onyejiekwe ,said “for the past four years,we have been experiencing flooding in this area, hence we wrote to the state government to come and clean the ground tunnels and drainage ways, I am happy that government has come to assist us .we are ready to support the work to ensure its success “
