The Chairman NMA Abia state ,Commends Governor Ikpeazu for his effort towards Repositioning Abia primary Health Care

The Nigerian Medical Association Abia state chapter has lauded Governor Okezie Ikpeazu for his commitment among the few states that have rolled out the basic health care provision scheme ,saying the effective running and utilization of this fund is dependent on a functional primary health care system and state health Insurance scheme.

The Chairman ,Nigerian Medical Association ,Abia state chapter, Dr Mrs Ejiro Carol Iwuoha ,who made this known in her key note address during the 2019 Annual General Meeting, with the theme ,” State’s Health Legislation ,Role in Effective Health care Delivery’  held at Villa Roy hotel Umuahia ,said ‘  the NMA in addition commends the  Abia state House of Assembly for passing into law the Abia state Health Insurance bill “,saying what remains is the implementation of the content and trust building in the project by health care providers “

The NMA Boss ,therefore has called on the government to do the needful including release of approved funds .

She further pointed out the need to engage doctors at the primary level of care in of great importance in building patient confidence and trust,adding that it will require legislative backing for the establishment of the office of medical officer of health across the LGAs as obtains in several States .

Earlier in his opening remark ,the chairman of the occasion ,Dr Azubuike Onyebuchi  commended the members of NMA for choosing a topic quite relevant ,looking at the health indexes of the state ,saying if the primary health centers are equipped ,the problems of health care delivery have been solved

Dr Onyebuchi ,who is the Chief Medical Director Federal Medical center Umuahia ,encouraged the State government to strengthen the primary health centers in the state ,and also ensure health insurance scheme ,pointing out that it will reduce the health care challenges in the state.
