The Bishop of Methodist Church of Nigeria ,Diocese of Umuahia East, Rt.Rev.G.A. Agupusi (MFR) has enjoined the recipients of the award of order of faithful of God (OFG) to use their remaining years on Earth to serve God and the humanity in general.
The Bishop who gave the advice during the 2019 Diocesan merit award of the order of the faithful of God to the deserving members, held at All Saints Cathedral Umuawa -Alaocha ,urged them to redeem the time and use their remaining years to show commitment to God in various church activities and then show love to humanity
According to him, the essence of the award is to honour those who have been found worthy in serving God faithfully ” It is to honour those whom we have assessed within the year in various ways, their faithfulness ,demonstrated in showing good Christian examples, both at home and their families, in the church and in the society at large . “We watched them, probed them, investigated them, the way they live, their lives, their utterances and how their words agree with their conducts.We decided to honour them this way today ” he said.
Speaking on what qualifies a recipient of the award ,he disclosed that , ” First he must be a Christian, then his works, his good deeds, faithful contributions, demonstrated commitments to church activities ,these are the things that qualify any body for this honour “
He however ,urged the youths to have serious personal commitment with Christ in all they do ,saying God shall reward those who serve Him.
In his speech, the chairman of the planning committee, Sir Christopher Chiedozie Ebeniro ,said the event is a four year program,which is used to encourage and appreciate the church members ,even as he hinted that the significance of the award is that one has been noticed to have worked for God, while urging people to create time to work for God
In their separate speeches, some of the recipients expressed their joy for the recognition done to them. High chief Kingsley Chukwunenye Igbokwe, said he was recognized for the little things he has been doing for God, noting that he has helped the Needy, given scholarships to church members, contributed in building the church, adding that the award will motivate him to be more committed to things of God. For Chief Elder Peter Nwogaraku,he said he was happy, adding that “when you are living a good life, the people and community will know “while for Hon.John O. Ogba he declared that he was delighted because he likes working for God because God has been faithful to him.
Speaking to Newsmen, Chief Ejike Prince Ojukwu ,expressed his happiness, pointing out that he has been involved in church activities and building of the church.For Elder comrade Nkasiobi Nwamara Arthur, ” I feel excited because it is not an easy thing to be nominated in this kind of award. I did not know of it until I was approached .People should ensure they do good things “
Expressing his happiness, Elder Chief Chima Ekeledo ,hinted that he has been working for God and “as the president of the men wing of the church, we are building administrative block for the men in the church,therefore with this honour, I have been motivated to work harder for God ” While for the President- General of Amaogwugwu autonomous community, Chief Nnaemeka Chukwuma ,” it is a recognition of something we have done. I give praise and glory to God. I am happy, sometimes you might be doing something without expecting reward, but God will reward you ” he said
In this same vein, Chief Alex Iheonunaekwu Otuekere, stated that ” I am overwhelmed and I thank God. It is a call to serve God and I am happy, the award means a lot to me, I have been motivated ” For Elder Ndubuisi Okparakwe, “I am happy because being the treasurer of my church and I have been recognized I thank God ” while for Elder High chief Maduabuchi Nwoha, he noted that he has been contributing to church activities and praise God for the award.
Earlier, Royal high chief Godfrey Chibueze Otuka,has this to say, ” I am very happy to be honoured, I never expected that, and for Elder Lucky Ikemefula Onyemata ,” I feel elated, great and blessed. It is people that selected me and God made it possible. I have been a major player in the church activities “
Meanwhile the award ceremony was graced by friends and relatives of the recipients, including different clergy men from the Methodist Church of Nigeria
