The Abia State government has declared that students and pupils of both government and private schools can no longer be allowed to jump classes in Abia state ,saying it is against the federal government education system
The Abia state commissioner for education, Professor Kanelechi Nwangwa ,disclosed this during A 2-Day training workshop on covid-19 preventive measures and protocols in preparedness for post covid-19 school reopening organized by Universal Basic Education Board and Secondary Education Management Board ,held at Ibeku high school ,Umuahia
The Commissioner pointed out that federal government is wise and brought technocrats together and they agreed on 6:3:3 system of education in Nigeria, saying that if a child jumps from primary three to secondary school ,the person has disrupted the system as well as disorganized himself or herself.
He urged parents to be patience with all their children to run the 6 years in primary school before going to junior secondary school as well as complete the 3 years in junior secondary school before going to the other 3 years in senior secondary.
In his words ,” So we are saying that for any body to go to secondary school, you must show evidence that you have done primary six ,without that evidence, we will not allow you to be admitted into secondary school and before you can move from junior secondary school to Senior secondary school, you must have completed your basic education certificate “
He said on the issue of covid-19 and school reopening, ” we experimented with the exit classes ,we provided things for them against covid-19 and at the end of the day ,we succeeded and we did not have any casualty ,we are confident that if we maintain what we already have ,there will not be problem.
According to him ,some people are thinking of mass promotion ,and we say no to mass promotion ,so that when they go into the new classes ,they know it is because they work hard “
The commissioner lauded the Executive Chairman of ASUBEB and the Directors for organizing the training workshop.
Addressing Newsmen ,the Executive Chairman of Abia state universal Basic education Board ,Elder Josiah Anonaba said the essence of the training workshop is to properly equip teachers to manage students and the school system ,adding that ” the workshop is for preparation and to reinforce what we have done before “
He maintained that schools in Abia are united as one body .
In her contribution, the Director in charge of manpower and training department in ASUBEB ,Lady Uzoma Ugwa ,said federal government asked them to train the children to enable them to be safe against covid-19 and Abia state universal Basic education board has been doing that .
