Governorship election: Governor Ihedioha wins as Supreme Court delivers judgement

The Supreme Court, on Tuesday, July 30, dismissed the appeal filed by a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Imo state, Samuel Nnaemeke Anyanwu, against Governor Emeka Ihedioha.

The appeal, according to The Nation, was filed against the emergence of ihedioha as the candidate of the PDP ahead of the election.

It was learnt that the judgement was delivered unanimously by a five-man panel of the court.

The judges upheld the earlier concurrent judgments of the trial and the appeal courts sitting Owerri, which held in favour of Ihedioha with the argument that Anyannwu did not prove his case.

The trial court had ruled that Anyanwu could not prove his allegations of manipulation and thuggery among other allegations, which, according to him, marred the process.

Delivering the lead judgement, Justice John Okoro dismissed the appeal for lacking in merit and awarded a N200,000 cost against the appellant.
