Ikpeazu Celebrates Dame Nwafor at 70


The Governor of Abia State, Okezie Victor Ikpeazu, PhD has sent a hearty and warm message of congratulations to Her Excellency, Dame Gladys Nne Chima Nwafor on the very auspicious occasion of her 70th birthday today.

Governor Ikpeazu described Dame Nwafor as the perfect example of a woman of great strength, courage, faith, resilience and resourcefulness who has, through her life and activities, become a reference point in excellence in womanhood.

According to Ikpeazu, “Dame Nwafor who is the widow of a former and two time Deputy Governor of Abia State, the Late Dr. Clement Chima Nwafor brought honor and integrity to public service by raising the standard of conduct by wives of top public officers”.

Governor recalled with deep nostalgia and gratitude, the many years of dedicated service to our State and country by Dame Nwafor, ranging from being a teacher, two time Local Government Education Secretary, Wife of the Deputy Governor, Member of the Governing Council of the Nnamdi Azikiwe University Akwa, Board Member of the Federal Institute for Agricultural Research Ibadan and Federal Commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission in charge of the South East.

“Beyond all these areas of service to our country and state”, Ikpeazu continued, the greatest achievement of this exemplary woman is in her ability to raise her six children into highly successful and resourceful members of our society, rising above the challenge and heartbreak occasioned by the demise of her husband”.

“Through her efforts, her children today have kept the legacy of excellence, hard work and commitment to the public welfare, which have over the years, become hallmarks of the Chima Nwafor family”.

“Dame Nwafor, has clearly become one of the key Abia women in terms of contributions to societal growth and development. As the first Abia woman to be elected Women Leader of the Ohaneze Ndigbo Worldwide, a position she holds currently, she has deservedly earned her permanent place in the Hall of Fame of Great Igbo women. She is, without any doubt, one of the most powerful sources of inspiration to today’s Girl Child”. Ikpeazu continued.

Further describing her as “a woman of infectious humility”, Ikpeazu noted that Dame Nwafor has remained committed to God Almighty through her dedicated service to the Anglican Church and leaves no one in doubt that God is the source of her strength and success.

Governor Ikpeazu is thankful to the Almighty God for His kindness to Dame Nwafor and her family and joins the host of family members, the people of Mbutu Umuojima Community in Osisioma Ngwa LGA, friends and associates in thanksgiving on this event.

The Governor, on behalf of his family, government and good people of Abia State wishes Dame Gladys Nne Chima Nwafor a wonderful celebration and prays God to grant her many more years ahead.
