The ICAN has supported Nigeria’s tertiary Education through Building Lecture Theatres ….ICAN National president
The National President of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) , Mazi Nnamdi Okwuadigbo ,has disclosed that ICAN as an institution has supported Nigeria’s tertiary education through the building of lecture theatres to aid learning and development of accounting and non- accounting students, as well as provided learning aids ,such as textbooks and computer systems to various libraries of tertiary institutions, adding that the Institute currently has agreement to partner with New Nigeria Development Company (NNDC) to fund and train students in the Northern region of the country.
Disclosing this during the ‘Ground -Breaking Ceremony’ of Chidi Onyeukwu Ajaegbu ICAN Resource Centre ,Umuahia, the President who was represented by the Chairman of Umuahia District Society of the ICAN, Mrs Rose-Mary Ngozi Amakwe ,lauded the past president of Institute, Mr Chidi Onyeukwu Ajaegbu for donating the counterpart fund for the construction of the edifice, hence ” ,In line with the Institute’s policy, named the resource centre ‘ CHIDI ONYEUKWU AJAEGBU ICAN RESOURCE CENTRE UMUAHIA’ ,even as he acknowledge the generous donation of the parcel of land by the Governor of Abia state ,Dr Okezie Ikpeazu .
He congratulated the Chairman and the members of Umuahia ICAN District society on the facilities, while encouraging that on completion ,the facilities should be well maintained for the benefit of current and succeeding generations
Addressing Newsmen,the Umuahia District Society Chairman of ICAN, Mrs Rosemary ,Amakwe praise God who made the foundation laying possible under her watch as the Chairman, while pointing out that ,it was one of her major targets,when she was inaugurated as the Umuahia District chairman.
Mrs Amakwe, appreciated the Governor of Abia state ,Dr Okezie Ikpeazu for the warmth reception and audience given to the ICAN president during his official visit to the State and expressed appreciation to the Abia state Deputy Governor, Rt .Hon.Sir Ude Oko -Chukwu ,who is the District Pillar of the Institute in Umuahia for his unflinching support to the Umuahia District, even as she lauded the past president, Mr Chidi Onyeukwu Ajaegbu who graciously pledged to donate the counterpart fund for the construction of the project and the national President of ICAN, Mazi Okwuadigbo ,the Registrar ,prof .Ahmed Kumshe and members of the governing council for granting the award of the construction of the ICAN resource centre Umuahia
She further ,reminded the Abia state government of the District earlier request to provide them with mobility in terms of a coaster bus and a good accessible road to the District Secretariat,which she said will assist members in carrying out their district functions and attract faster development as well as encourage members to participate in the District ‘s activities.
Addressing the ICAN members before performing the the Foundation Laying Ceremony, the Abia state Governor ,Dr Okezie Ikpeazu ,thank the President and the members of ICAN for agreeing ,approving and awarding the building of the project, noting that “as a government, we understand the importance of the project in the State .
The Governor ,who was represented by his Deputy ,Rt Hon .Ude Oko Chukwu ,said Abia state government appreciated and commended Mr Chidi Onyeukwu Ajaegbu for giving the counterpart fund,while urging the host community, the people Mgbarakuma Ubakala to ensure they protect the project,so that the essence of situating the project in their community will not be defeated.
