The Governorship candidate of the All Progressive Congress in Abia state in the forthcoming general election,High Chief Ikechi Emenike has promised to make Abia state education hub of Nigeria if he takes over the governance of the state after the election urged Abia Journalists to join hands with him to develop the state.
Chief Emenike who made the disclosure while interacting with Online Media Practitioners Association of Nigeria Abia (OMPAN) in his hometown Umukabia, Ohuhu in Abia state said his manifesto is to rescue and develop Abia state added that part of his developmental plans will be to ensure availability of qualitative education at all levels of education in the state.
Chief Emenike who unveiled his manifesto during the event , informed that there shall be truly free education from primary up to junior secondary School level without any form of levies or monetary demands and pursue a policy that would encourage every gifted child to attain the highest level of education without the financial involvement of parents.
He pointed out that making Abia education hub of Nigeria will involve modernizing and upgrading the Abia state polytechnic into a university, establishing an Institute of Leather Technology in Aba to enhance the operations and competitiveness of shoe and leather workers in the state, establishment of many universities by encouraging faith -based organizations to set up educational institutions in the state
According to him,”For example, the Assemblies of God church which was founded in Old Umuahia, would be encouraged to take advantage of a generous offer from the State Government to establish a tertiary institution, other churches such as Methodist,Christ Embassy,TREM ,RCCG,Winners chapel,Seven Days Adventist among others would be approached under this programme” he said
Continuing ,he disclosed that “the challenge we have is that Abia has decayed holistically,so whoever wants to develop Abia most have holistical approach in the development of Abia.
“The major problem facing Abia is to increase the size of Abia project which I call physical re- engineering,that is we must increase the size of Abia budget”
