The traditional Ruler of Egwunaeleke Okaiuga Nkwoegwu autonomous community in Umuahia North LGA of Abia state has performed the 2022 ‘Iwa ji’ ceremony at his palace with a call for government at all levels to assist and support the youths to embark on commercial farming as the panacea for hunger and unemployment among the teeming youths population in the country.
Interacting with Newsmen shortly after performing the Iwa ji ceremony, HRH Eze Ugochukwu Akabuike ,the Agu Egwu Uga II said, “the solution to unemployment is for government to support and assist our youths to embark on commercial and mechanized system of farming,just like in the time of late Dr Michael Okpara,the former Premier of the Eastern Region.
“He built farm settlements and he equally trained the youths on the best methods of farming” he said
Speaking further,he lamented the high cost of embarking on commercial and mechanized system of farming in Nigeria in recent time as very high said scarcity of land for farming, among other factors are the reasons youths are discouraged from farming.
Eze Akabuike, described Iwa ji ceremony as a time to express appreciation to God Almighty for keeping the people alive as well as for bountiful harvest.
The ceremony attracted other traditional Rulers from Ohuhu land .
