The Chairman Nigerian Medical Association Abia state ,Dr Mrs Carol Iwuoha has described as a positive development the flagging -off of Abia State Social Health Insurance Scheme, saying it will help to achieve universal health care coverage among residents of Abia state.
Addressing Newsmen at Michael Okpara Auditorium after the flagg -off ceremony by Abia state Governor , the NMA Boss applauded the development ,noting that the development will benefit people both those in organized sector and others in public sector to be able to walk into the health facilities in the state and access care even when they don’t have money in their pockets .
Her words ,” It is a positive one for health care delivery in the state. The reason is very clear ,for you to achieve universal health care coverage, we must have a situation where people are able to access health care with out catastrophic expense for health and the only way to achieve that is through premium scheme, where people contribute into pool and then you can just walk into the health facilities and access care even when you don’t have money in your pocket “
Advising On the sustainability of the scheme,she encouraged everybody to enrol in the scheme, adding ” that the more people we have in it ,the more sustainable the scheme, because we all contribute and we will not fall sick at the same time ” she disclosed
Dr Iwuoha further called on all well to do Nigerians and Philanthropists to enrol people in the scheme, revealing that by doing that for them ,they have already given them access health care when they don’t have money.
