Governor Otti Says His Committed To Supporting Tertiary Institutions in Abia To Attain Global Standard

The Governor of Abia State Dr Alex Otti says education stands at the forefront of his administration’s agenda and that he remains committed to supporting tertiary institutions in the State to attain global standard.

Governor Otti who was represented by his Special Adviser on Education Mr Kenechukwu Nwosu on the occasion of the Maiden Registry Week of Michael Okpara university of Agriculture Umudike ,Abia State
and spoke on theme; “Repositioning the Registry department for effective service delivery in a challenged economy’,said the theme underscored the need to adapt and innovate amidst economy challenges.

He said his government was deliberate to commit 20% of the 2024 budget to the education sector.

According to him, “We have instituted a comprehensive full Visitation Panel to ABSU which recently submitted their report, to assess its systems and ensure alignment with global standards. Our vision for tertiary education in Abia State includes elevation of Abia State polytechnic Aba to world class institution of learning, research, technology and administration.

” Concurrently, we have implementated reforms in the Abia State civil service to promote fairness, transparency, productivity, advancing meritocracy and inclusive growth through ICT integration and robust capacity building initiatives”

He informed that facing today economic challenges, universities through the Registry department must navigate obstacles and manage growing data volumes while ensuring prompt and accurate service delivery,added that leveraging modern technology and best administrative practices can enhance, efficiency and effectiveness

He noted the vital role Michael Okpara university has been playing in the agricultural education in Nigeria, and the university significant growth from an initial student population of eighty two in 1993 to nearly forty thousand today.

He pointed out that repositioning of the Registry department for effective service delivery in a challenged economy’ requires a collective effort , commitment and innovation, advising that by focusing on technological integration, capacity building, process optimization and enhanced communication, the Registry department can overcome challenges and set a benchmark for administrative excellence.

He urged members of the Registry department to embrace change, foster collaboration, maintain high standards as well as focus on customer service which would drive the university forward.
