Governor Ikpeazu congratulates Local Govt.Ladies on 17th anniversary,tasks them to wage war against rape and Girl child trafficking

The Governor of Abia state ,Dr Okezie Ikpeazu has urged women to join hands in Waging war against rape/Girl child trafficking and other crimes in the society,added that women play vital role in the development and growth of any society and nation .

Governor Ikpeazu said this during the 17th year anniversary of the Abia Local Government Ladies Association,held at Michael Okpara auditorium Umuahia with the theme,’ Waging war against rape/Girl child trafficking,the role of Local government women’, congratulated Local government Ladies Association for their anniversary.

The Governor who was represented at the occasion by his wife Dr Nkechi Ikpeazu,frowned at the way things are going wrong in the society these days, attributed most of the ills today in the society as a result of the failure of the family

Mrs Nkechi Ikpeazu urged women to look out for breast cancer by constantly engaging in breast examination which will help them know when there is sign of growth.

She charged women to get involved in politics as election is coming closer by getting their PVCs to enable them elect credible and responsible leaders.

The PDP governorship candidate Professor Uche Ikonne congratulated the LOGLA for their anniversary tasking them to continue to play supportive role in their families.

Professor Uche Ikonne who was represented by his running mate, Hon. Okey Igwe thanked Governor Okezie Ikpeazu for all he has been doing to make the state better and for laying good foundation in the state

He commended the wife of the Governor for the job she has doing to protect the Girl child as well as the indigent people.

In his speech, the president of conference local government workers ,Engr. Obinna Nwogwugwu congratulated Local Government Ladies for the good things they are doing, described them as intelligent and hard working people.

Earlier the Abia state president of Local government Ladies Association (LOGLA) Lady Irene Uchenna Ekwu commended Governor Okezie Ikpeazu for providing atmosphere of peace and security in the state , said it has helped them discharged their duties without fear.

According to her ,” As civil servants,we are always on the road ,our ladies had in the past experienced incidences of falling into gutters on rainy days on their way to work .The massive road construction and rehabilitation carried out by your administration have eliminated most of the challenges earlier mentioned”

She lauded the wife of the Governor, Deaconess Dr Nkechi Ikpeazu for taking up women issues and going to the House of Assembly for immediate action on an appointment of women in various positions of authority as well as thanked the chairman of Local government service commission,Hon.commissioner of Local government/chieftaincy Affairs,Rt Hon.Prince Enweremadu and others present.

She said the association does not have a benefitting office accommodation,added that,” we will appreciate your help in this regard to secure a conducive office accommodation for proper co-ordination of our work in the 17 LGAs .

” Equally we need a sound and reliable vehicle for the smooth running of our programmes and co-ordination of our activities on daily basis as well as need vehicle to aid the association movement.

She listed some of their achievements so far to include , ensuring the welfare of girl child and women at the Local government Areas , reaching out to female workers at the different branches who had one issue or the other, payments of rites and support to members,making sure that branches stand firm in discharging their duties,provide occasional free medical tests and treatments to members and also paying hospital bills for indigent members,contribute to charity by visiting orphanages,remand homes and prisons
