Good governance has been said to be one of the major key to maintaining and ensuring peace in Nigeria, while adding that majority of the crisis Nigerians are facing are as a result of bad government as well as poor policies by the government.
This was made known to newsmen by the state Coordinator Partners For Peace (P4P) Abia Chapter, Hon. DCN .Uchella Iyke in Umuahia ,during the World Peace Day Celebration 2020 ,held at Margret Hall ,Azikiwe Road Umuahia.
According to him ,” Good governance is the key to peaceful coexistence. When the citizens are getting what they need from government, everybody understands that everybody has a reason to live ,that we are not the creator of ourselves.Some are created rich ,some are poor ,some are healthy and others are not and we understand that at every point in time ,there is a reason to celebrate and to appreciate the other person and we will find out that we will live peacefully among ourselves”
Hon .Uchella ,commended Federal government for working to stop insurgencies in the country, but pointed out the federal government can not do it alone ,hence needs to join hands with other stakeholders in the country to ensure peace, as well as formulating good policies that will help the citizens.
Speaking further, he said ,” this year world peace day has been tagged ” SHAPING PEACE TOGETHER’ which means that every individual or person has a role to play in giving peace a place in our society “
He revealed that as peace builders ,that they sought for an intervention from their founders and were graciously supported to intervene on ” Reducing the Escalating Spate of Cult Violence in 3 selected local government area of Abia state namely Bende -Uzuakoli ,Umuahia South -Umuajiji Ibeku
and Isialangwa South -Ndiolumbe ,we took the steps and identified the various stake holders ,and various cult groups and pleaded for an understanding, and collaboration on how to reduce crisis and crime rate as we are experiencing and at the end selected 10 persons in each of the local government for rehabilitation and to the glory of God and the commitment of these youths ,they completed the one month of constant counseling without any problems “
He said, his organization will continue to seek collaboration and support from individuals ,groups ,government ,cooperate organizations to help rid our environment of the cult violence,even as he urged citizens to join hands with the government to ensure peace in Abia state and Nigeria at large .
This year 2020 world peace day celebration in Abia state attracted many prominent Abians with some given awards for their outstanding roles in ensuring peace
Among those given the awards are HRM Eze G.N Nwankpa ,Ala OMA II of Ala OMA Autonomous community Isiala Ngwa South .LG.A .
Speaking to Newsmen, Eze Nwankpa expressed happiness over the award ,while thanking them for his recognition and commended the organization for the charity and good works they are doing.
Other recipients include : Dr Chimaobi Desmond Anyaso ,Hon.Chief Gabriel Elendu ,Hon.Emmanuel Ndubuisi ,Rev.Dr Kate Thelma Obilor among others.
