The Sector Commander, Abia state FRSC Meshach Jatau has disclosed that during the last 4 months of the year, there is always traffic upsurge as people travel for the Christmas and new year celebration .
Jatau, who made this disclosure at his office in Umuahia, Abia state ,while interacting with Newsmen, noted that they have carried out campaign ,talked to Unions, to schools ,to churches etc, added that , “there are certain things, we are expected to do in the enforcement aspect, there are certain critical junctions that we have identified, we have mobilized our men to effectively control traffic there, for example the Abia State Tower Umuahia, Cooperative junction, other areas are, the IkotoEkpene Road ,there is one other area called Lokpanta, as you are traveling to Enugu .Right now, we have a team there, what they are trying to do is to ensure that all the vehicles there are packed one side ,so that we can have less blockage”
According to him “Expectedly and routinely, we have about 40 thousand vehicles plying this high way,from Enugu to PortHarcourt daily, but what is expected at this critical time is that we should be expecting about 90 thousand vehicles, therefore, we are expecting a gridlock at the Abia Tower”
“Three months ago, I was in contact with the Site Engineer of the Setraco company, working there and I tried to convince him on the need to open there before Christmas and he promised to do something.
” However, a day before yesterday, I went there to remind him, unfortunately he said they are not able to finish the work, that the head shoulder has not been done and it’s so Sharp and steep and that if they open the road, that there will be more fatalities.Vehicles may likely crash there.
“So it means our men have to work harder to ensure that traffic flows there, that is what we are doing for now”
