FRSC ABIA Synergizes With Abia Road Transport Employees To Curb Covid-19 ,Issues Guidelines To Operators
The Sector Commander of FRSC Abia state ,has synergized with the Abia State chapter of Road Transport Employees Association of Nigeria (RTEAN) to curtail the spread of covid-19 in the country.
This was made known by the Sector Commander of FRSC Abia state, Corps Commander Meshach. A. Jatau ,during a meeting held at FRSC State Headquarter Umuahia, between the Sector Commander and the officials of Abia state chapter Of Road Transport Employees Association of Nigeria (RTEAN) ,led by the chairman Comrade Adiele Goodluck ,on 8 July ,2020 .
According to the Sector Commander, the measures were part of the resolutions reached between the Federal government and the Road Transport Unions ,through a virtual meeting which held on Monday ,6 July, 2020.
Speaking further, the FRSC Abia Boss ,who enumerated the measures to include the following.
1: All public Transport Operators to sanitize their parks.
2: All vehicles to be disinfected before and after each journey.
3: All passengers to wear facemasks and to report operators who fail to comply with the measures.
4: Public Transport Operators to provide sanitizing points at entry and exit points of their terminals .
5: Motorists engaged in interstate journeys are to avoid the use of Air conditioners and keep windows open for adequate ventilation.
Other measures include:
6: the spacing of passengers in transport vehicles to ensure social distancing as follows:
* all luxury buses to carry only 50% of its passenger capacity
*saloon cars are to carry 75% of its capacity (3 persons)
*seven-seat buses are to carry 71% (5 persons)
* ten-seat buses are to carry 70% (7 persons),among other things.
In his response, the Abia State Chairman of RTEAN Comrade Abiele Goodluck reassured the Sector Commamder that the association will cascade the information to the Operators and will partner the FRSC to ensure total compliance with the resolutions in order to reduce the spread of COVID-19 in the State and in the country in general.
