It was a gathering of Creme de la creme as the remains of late Mrs Felicia Akudo Eleagu was committed to Mother Earth in her husband’s compound at Umuodia Umuegwu Mpam in Ahiazu Mbaise LGA Imo state
The funeral service which was held on the Saturday 18 of February,2023 at St Silas Anglican Church Mpam Ekwereazu in Ahiazu Mbaise LGA Imo state was graced with the presence of many clergy men and other Prominent personalities from Imo and Abia states as well as other places who celebrated the final burial ceremony of the woman who was described by her children and grandchildren as a woman of peace and an embodiment of hard work.
The series of events to bid farewell to late Mrs Felicia Akudo Eleagu, who passed away on Monday 19 December,2022 at Federal Medical Center, Umuahia Abia state, started with a service of song ,followed by a befitting grand funeral as she was laid to rest in
her husband’s compound ,late Pa Mathias Eleagu .
Interacting with Newsmen shortly after the burial,the first grandchild Mrs Benita Nmerengwa (Nee Eleagu) who is the wife of the CEO Nmere’s company limited ,Mr Chinenye Nmerengwa, described her late grand mother as an industrious woman who was very supportive to her husband in training and raising their children.
According to her,” As the first grandchild, when I gained admission into secondary School,she ensured that she visited me each visiting day and the first Bible I used was given to me by her.
” She was a role model to everyone of us and others that came across her in life and she made sure that love reigns in my family.
” I learnt hard work from her as she was an embodiment of hard work. She was in the business of making sure that everything was in order “
Continuing, Mrs Nmerengwa said she would miss a lot of things about her because she partook actively in training them when she lost her father.
” I will miss a lot of things about her,she made sure that we are in harmony and peace as well as advised me to make sure I take care of my parents, especially my mother since the demise of my father.
” When I lost my father,God in His infinite mercy kept my grand parents strong because we were scared of loosing them then, now she died at appointed time
and at a riped age of 100 years and my advice is for my family members to emulate her because she stood for the truth not minding who is involved.
In his speech, while interacting with Newsmen,the last child of late Mrs Felicia Akudo Eleagu, Pastor Felix Eleagu thank God for the life of his mother, saying although she never had the privilege of attending formal education but was blessed with wisdom and understanding and ensured that the family live in peace and harmony as well as promoted unity and love in the family.
He further described his late mother as forthright woman who love her children,added that even after the demise of his eldest brother she was able to still forge ahead and showed that really love to the children
He however, regretted of not having the opportunity to closely interact with her when she was in coma, particularly on eternity.
He therefore,urged every one including his siblings to embrace those values that she promoted,love , togetherness,hard work among others, while enjoining Christians to understand that life will come to end one day and what is important is where they will spend their eternity.
In his homily,the Minister in charge of St Silas Anglican Church Mpam in Ahiazu Mbaise LGA Imo state, who conducted the funeral service, Okechukwu Asimole enjoined Christians to always remember that the world is a temporary place hence should live a righteous life
Taking his preaching from the holy Bible Psalm 39:4-6, he challenged Christians to emulate David who he described as a wise man as well as understood that the days of man on Earth are numbered
He extolled the virtues of late Mrs Felicia Akudo Eleagu,describing her as a dedicated Christian who lived in peace with people around her and urged the children to imitate her life .
