COVID-19: Yobe health ministry’s director dies at isolation centre
– The director of human resources at Yobe state health ministry Alhaji Muazu Brahji is dead
– Brahji died after he was taken to a coronavirus isolation facility in Damaturu
– The director was awaiting his COVID-19 test results as at the time of his death
Alhaji Muazu Brahji, the director of human resources at the Yobe state Ministry of Health has died. He was reported to have passed away at the state specialist hospital isolation centre in Damaturu.
According to report Brahji’s brother, Yau Ubaliyo Abubakar, said that the health ministry director died after being taken to the isolation centre on Tuesday, May 5.
The deceased’s brother further revealed that Brahji died while awaiting the result of his coronavirus test.
As at Wednesday, May 6, Yobe remains among the states without a COVID-19 testing centre. Sample collected in the state are taken for testing either at Abuja or Borno.

However, the Yobe state government has asked Nigerians to disregard a media report alleging Covid-19 related deaths in the state, declaring that no such case was recorded.
A media report had claimed that there were COVID-19 related deaths in the state recently.
However, a media aide to Yobe governor, Mamman Mohammed, said in a statement made available to journalists in Abuja on Thursday, May 7, that the state was the first in Nigeria to voluntarily submit a suspected case of COVID-19 for a test, which came out negative.

In a related development, a lawmaker representing Nguru central constituency at the Yobe state House of Assembly, Lawan Nguru, has tested positive for COVID-19.
Nguru who is the only member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at the state assembly, said he had gone on isolation. He said he is in stable condition, expressing optimism that he would recover from the disease.

He said: “Presently, I am in isolation centre and recuperating in a very stable condition waiting for further directives from Health officers.”
