FG releases N22.163billion to Presidential Task Force

The federal government has so far released the total sum of N22.163 billion to the Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19 since the war against coronavirus began in the country.
This was disclosed by the chairman of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19, Mr Boss Mustapha on Monday, June 8.
He was speaking at the investigative hearing on the management and utilization of the funds accrued into the COVID-19 coffers so far including grants and other resources, held by the House committee on public accounts. COVID-19:
He said out of the amount, the sum of N165 million has so far expended to cater for the welfare of all the Nigerians who were evacuated so far from various countries.
The PTF was set up by President Muhammadu Buhari to help Nigeria defeat coronavirus.
While responding to inquiries on the balance of the fund, Mustapha disclosed that the balance of the money is in the operations account domiciled in the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
Responding, the chairman of the committee, Honourable Wale Oke directed the clerk to send a letter to the CBN governor, Mr Godwin Emefiele to send a detailed statement of COVID-19 account to the committee.
The committee also requested details of the monies paid by the returnees from various countries as well as other resources received from development partners
The disclosure is coming days after the board of directors of the African Development Bank (AfDB) approved a $288.5million loan to help Nigeria tackle the COVID-19 pandemic and mitigate its impact on people and businesses.
The loan is expected to bolster the federal government’s plans to improve surveillance and response to COVID-19 emergencies, ease the impact on workers and businesses and strengthen the social protection system.
According to a statement from the AfDB on Saturday, June 6, Nigeria will also be supported to curtail oil price shocks.
