The Founder and chief Executive officer of Amy Mother and Child care foundation ( AMCCF) Mrs Amarachi Chibueze Mbanaso ,has revealed that many African children have had their talents and visions cut short as a result of being victims of sexual abuse ,hence the need to create increased awareness among children, especially students and to support school administrators , parents and guardians reduce the spike of cases of child sexual abuse to a very minimal level.
Mrs Mbanaso, made this revelation shortly after organizing a seminar with a theme ,’ Child Sexual Abuse and Trafficking ‘ held at Government Technical school Afara -Ukwu ,in Umuahia,Abia State capital, she regretted that many children have suffered sexual abuse and even dropped from school , hence putting an end to their life dreams , visions and talents .
According to her, ” seeing most children with talents , visions dropped from school because they were abused and most of them without direction and most mothers are dying in the rural areas because of lack of fund.Majority of these children do not speak out after being abused , because they were promised some money.
” Then in the orphanage , many of these children need our help to survive ,the zeal to assist in all these and more was what inspired me to start this foundation” she said.
She therefore advised parents to create time to monitor closely their children to be able to ascertain what they are doing at every point in time.
She however ,appealed to government at all level and other stakeholders to contribute and support her vision and the foundation.
” We have alot of projects at hand but because of financial restraints ,we are doing as much little as we can . “Presently ,we do not have sponsors and everything done so far is from our personal pockets and contributions. If the government and other stakeholders can support the AMCCF vision ,we are sure to reach out to most children and women in Nigeria and Africa at large “
Addressing Newsmen, the Facilitator and resource person at the seminar,Dr Mrs Ola Ezeigbo , pointed out that because the problem of child sexual abuse has become very prevalent in the society ,” we need to make our children aware ,so that they can be very careful and avoid situations that can expose them to sexual abuse.
She called on school administrators to train teachers on the issue of child sexual abuse , adding that the teachers are the parents the children have while in the school environment.
She urged teachers to create time monitor and observe the students to know when they manifest some of the effects of sexual abuse, even as she cautioned parents against exposing their bodies to their children as well as to stop encouraging them in that direction.
In her speech, the Principal of the Government Technical school Afara-Ukwu , Umuahia, Mrs Onyendi Catherine Nnenne expressed joy over the seminar, describing it as educative , enlightening , informative and coming at the right time.
In similar vein ,one of the students, who participated at the seminar ,Aniekwe Isaiah Ekwe expressed appreciation to Amy Mother and Child care foundation for the seminar, saying that it would be good to organize similar seminar from time to time.
