CALM DOWN LET GOVERNMENT ACTS ON YOUR GRIEVANCES, ABIA STAKEHOLDERS APPEAL TO NIGERIA YOUTHS.
The Governor of Abia state ,Dr Okezie Ikpeazu has called on all Abia state stakeholders to appeal to the youths to desist from wanton destruction of public and private property, saying government has noted their grievances and has initiated steps to tackle them.
Governor Ikpeazu ,who was represented by his Deputy Rt Hon .Ude Okochukwu , at a special non-partisan stakeholders town Hall held in Michael Okpara Auditorium ,organized to foster peace in Abia in the face of protests by Nigeria Youths, explained that the essence of the meeting was to bring the stakeholders together to help chart the way forward.
He regretted the magnitude of looting and destruction of banks, police stations, the onions market, burning of 18 brand new trucks belonging to an Igbo man ,among others ,pointing out what the ENDSARS was faced in Abia was not ordinary protests, rather a well orchestrated plot to take Abia state back in development, saying such actions threatens the fragile unity of Nigeria.
He said his administration has tried to accommodate the youths “in all we are doing and to strive to solve their problems, adding that there is need to stop the protests ,while urging all the stakeholders to go and talk to all their members who are protesting, even as he appealed to Youths to come up with proposals that will help in the development of the youths, urging them to key into the various youths development programs of the government.
In his speech, the minister for State for mining, Dr Uche Ogah ,appealed to Nigeria Youths to calm down, urging them to forgive for a better Nigeria.
Addressing Newsmen shortly after the meeting, the Chairman of Ikwuano Council of Traditional Rulers ,HRM Eze Dr E.C Ndimele ,lamented that there are so much problems in the land ,saying there are strong reasons while the country is the way it is now.
According to him ,the EndSARS was not the only problem ,”if not the moment they abolished it ,the whole protests would have stopped” he insisted.
He appealed to Nigeria youths to calm down ,believing that these problems can be addressed, particularly unemployment, adding that there is problem of hunger in Nigeria.
He called on the government at all level, Federal ,State and local governments to ensure they seriously bring solutions to these problems, to avoid the recurrence of these protests in Nigeria.
In his view, the chairman of Ariaria International market, Mr Okeke Chigozie ,disclosed that from his interactions with some traders who made themselves available for the protest, their major concern is the magnitude of decay in infrastructure
.
He said ,Abia state government is working hard to remodel the Ariaria market to international standard, but frowned at few traders who are against the decision of the government and the majority of the traders in the market.
He therefore, appealed to the government to use political will so as to get the market to international standard, while calling on all the youths to calm down as they have put forward their grievances, saying ,” let us give government chance to carry out all that we have presented to them”
In his reaction, the Team leader of Abia Civil Society Organization ,comrade Nelson Nnanna Nwafor ,urged government to look into the demands made by the youths ,especially in the area of empowerment to avoid a repetition of the protests.
