A former speaker of Abia state House of Assembly ,Rt Honourable Alwell Asiforo Okere has emerged the new chairman of Abia state PDP .
Okere ,emerged unopposed even
Even though that the delegates have to cast their votes to affirm his choice as a consensus candidate.
The Abia state Governor , Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu has congratulated the newly elected PDP State Executive and Working Committee on their emergence
According to the Governor , despite winning elections in the past, the tasks of winning elections cannot be taken for granted and therefore charged the new executive to ensure that the party grows from strength to strength
The Governor who made this known at the end of the State PDP congress held at Umuahia Township stadium ,tasked the new executives to start work immediately, traversing every nook and cranny of the State while reminding the party faithfuls of the need to cooperate with the new party leadership in the State.
According to the Governor, ” PDP seems to be the only hope of the people and I call on aggrieved members of the party to seek redress within the available channels in the party”
Announcing the results, the Chairman of the Electoral Committee, Rt . Hon. Kenneth Okon thanked the Governor for his patience and appreciated the delegates for conducting themselves accordingly.
According to him, ” Rt Hon.Alwell Asiforo Okere polled a total of 2105 votes to emerge as the chairman, while his deputy Hon. Obinna Nwachukwu polled a total of 2051 votes to emerge”
In his response while interacting with Newsmen , the new chairman said ,” Tomorrow is greater than today ,those that did not emerge today should be patient .All of us are winners ,the only loser is the person that will leave the party. PDP is a very big umbrella and for those that have left the party for one feeling of injustice or the other, this is a brand new umbrella given to me ,let them come back .We are going to do justice ,we are going to be fair to all manner of people. We are going to put God first in our administration. This is the right time for every body to come back ,so that we build a stronger party ” he said
