The Alumni Association of the School of Midwifery Amachara ,Umuahia, Abia state ,has been inaugurated with the President Princess ,Lady ,Stella Anyanka Ufomadu ,commending all the members for their immense contributions towards the growth of the Alumni association ,while charging them to be prepared to take the association to a higher level.
Addressing Newsmen during the inauguration ceremony at School of Midwifery Amachara,Princess Ufomadu ,pointed out that the seeds planted by the school of Amachara has grown and become an oak tree with many branches all over the world .
According to her ,” This inaugural ceremony can not be completed without reflecting and refreshing our memories on our old school days experiences and relationship. Our PTS Examination /capping ceremonies, can not be forgotten in a hurry with dedicated matrons like ,Matron Obike and her team .All our highly professional lecturers who taught us during our time “
She recalled with delight ,that ,” We were specially groomed and happened to produce the best Nurses that are widely accepted and employed all over the world “
She further disclosed the willingness of the Alumni association to discuss the way forward with the current principal, Mrs Nwaka Onyeukwu in respect to projects the association can key in
In her speech, the Public Relation Officer of SOMAAA ) ,who is also the Initiator of the Alumni Association, Rose Onyii Onyeforo -Nee Nwosu ,chronicled the reasons and the steps behind the initiation of this Alumni association.
According to her ,” Practically ,during ward experiences ,we were trained to work assiduously to master everything we were taught. The memorable experiences impacted so much to our morals in the pursuit of life .Those great memories prompted the need for us to form this great alma mater ” she said .
Speaking further, Mrs Onyeforo, revealed that ,” Unfortunately ,at the end of our academic pursuit ,we lost contact due to poor communication facilities. On that faithful day ,I actually believe that ,it was by the special grace of God and divine intervention that God connected us through Lolo Ijeoma Mbagwu (Nee Nwokojie ) ,my classmate who invited us for her brothers wedding ceremony in Umuahia”
She described their meeting with delight as a surprise one .In her words ,” To my greatest surprise ,Lolo Ijeoma could not recognize any of us .Both Lady Chy Nwosu (Nee Olunkwa ) and I .It pained that she could not recognize her classmates, room mates and friends”
Mrs Onyeforo ,however explained ,” that we sat at the same table without recognizing ourselves, until Lolo Ijeoma came to introduce us to one another. The screaming, hugging, jumping and jubilation, at that moment drew the attention of everyone around us .The joy brought back ,those excellent old school memories in our blood streams again, hence ,it was dawn on me that there is need for us to form this great alma mater ” she noted
In her speech, the Principal School ofMidwiferyAmachara, Mrs Onyeukwu Nwakaego ,explained that the sole purpose of the establishment of this association like all alumni associations is for the reunion of old colleagues to appreciate the grace of God over a period of time among yourselves and the maintenance of the well being of the parent institution.
According to her ,” I therefore foresee a future where the Alumni as individuals or the group will embark on projects which will further upgrade the resources of the institution to facilitate a 5 year accreditation status
In his speech, the chairman of the occasion, Engr. Ikechi Ikpa, described Amachara school of midwifery Umuahia, as one of the oldest schools that has produced so many nurses and midwives, noted that a lot of them, are found all over the world, especially in United States.
He lamented that the school is yet to be placed at the rightful position, hence the government needs to do more to enable the institution to be placed where it belongs, while urging the Alumni members to work harder and not to relent so as to reposition their Alma mater
Addressing Newsmen during the inauguration ceremony, the chairman Planning Committee, Golden Mother Felicia Nwaeruru Anoghalu, expressed joy for the opportunity to chair the planning of the inauguration, emphasizing that although, it was challenging ,but that she came, saw and conquered.
She lauded those who worked with her ,added that she is happy about the success of the inauguration.
