Ajata and Igu Oboro Community Celebrates Iri Iji Festival With Fanfare

The people of Ajata and Igu autonomous community in Oboro Ikwano local government area of Abia state has celebrated their 2019 new yam Thanksgiving ceremony ( Iriji ) with fanfare and other cultural displays.
The festival which took place at the place of HRH Eze King Larry Ogbonnaya Agwu,the chairman Oboro Traditional Rulers has in attendance many prominent sons and daughters of Abia state.
Speaking at the ceremony ,HRH Eze Ambrose Nwagwu who was in attendance ,said new yam festival is an old traditional rites In Igboland ,which is celebrated yearly with high level of traditional cultural display, saying its significance is its uniting factor ,while chief Munachimso Onwuchekwa said ” it is a great day in Ajata as they celebrate their iriji ,noting that the Igbos found yam important to celebrate it as the crops king”
For the MD Belux paints Nigeria limited ,Elder chief Nwaiwu Chimezie Bright described  Iriji festival as very important ,
revealing that he came to honour Eze Larry because he is a traditional man and well known farmer.
In his speech ,Hon.Chief Anderson Chimezie ,a former councillor in Aba North ,pointed out that he created 3 roads in his community and when he was doing it ,little did he know that the community will honour him.He promised to do more for his people.He was given Ike oha 1 of Ajata ,
while for Hon.Chief Godwin Onyebuchi Chinaza Nwosu said he has done a lot to his community ,which includes awarding of scholarship and empowerment of the youths and for chief Okoro Charles Orji
,who was given a chieftaincy award as Ojere oha 1 expressed his happiness while urging people to work for the development of their communities .
Earlier on the chairman of the community ,chief Moses Jones ,” our Eze is celebrating Iri ji Thanksgiving to God .pointing out that the ceremony helps to bring the people together, adding that there is not fetish about the new yam festival.
In her reaction, an Actress and Nollywood member ,who was awarded a chieftaincy title ,chief Brenda Eve Ndukwe ,expressed her happiness over the recognition by her community, while promising to work and support the development of the community.
