The Director General of Abia state Orientation Agency (AbSOA),Hon .Godwin Adindu, led a group of Abians today on a Road Work show to sensitize and enlighten Abians and the Abian residents on the need to keep Abia state clean,so as to live and maintain healthy life
The sensitization walk started from the Umuahia Township stadium, down to Umuahia Isigate, moving through the Shoprite axis, connecting to Okpara square, down to Bank road axis, and stop at the Abia state government house Umuahia.
Interestingly , the road walk which ended at the government house, attracted the Abia state Deputy Governor, his excellency, Rt Hon. Sir, Ude Oko Chukwu, the Commissioner for Information, Chief John Okiyi Kalu, Chief sir Ike Onyeweaku, General Manager, ASEPA Aba zone and its environment, Hon Rowland Nwakanma ,the DG of Abia state orientation Agency Hon Godwin Adindu and host of other Abia personalities .
Addressing Abians after demonstrating the best global practice of waste disposal, the Deputy Governor, Rt Hon. Ude Oko Chukwu, enjoined every body in Abia state to try as much as possible to change the attitude of trying to dump refuse indiscriminately in all corners of the state and in all corners of the street of Abia state.
According to him, ” We will want every Abian, wherever you are, As you walk along the street of Abia state, do not drop any dirt along the road; if for any reason, you have need to drop any waste, look for ASEPA bucket and drop it in there .Cleanliness is next to godliness ” he said.
The Deputy Governor urged Abians to ” please imbibe this culture of cleanliness, that is our plead and when you do this ,Abia state will be better and we will be sure of a better and healthy environment “
Addressing the Newsmen after the Road walk, the Manager General Aba ASEPA zone, Hon.Rowland Nwakanma ,stated that, ” we are helping the newly created Abia state orientation Agency, since what they are doing is also helping us in creating awareness on how people can dispose their waste, to avoid littering of waste on the roads or drainages”
Hon Nwakanma, pointed out that the Governor Ikpeazu, gave directive that people should stop indiscriminate dumping or littering of waste,adding that defaulters will be arrested and taken to sanitation court, even as he revealed that about 48 defaulters are already serving their jail terms in Aba prison.
Earlier on, the Director General of Abia state orientation Agency, Hon. Godwin Adindu, said that, it is the policy of the Abia state government that we should keep our environment clean and learn how to “dispose our waste “
Hon. Adindu ,who is the former Chief Press secretary to the Governor, maintained that government is against indiscriminate disposal of waste,and against blocking of drainages .
According to him, the road walk was for awaking Abians on the need for cleanliness .His words, ” This is a kind of sensitization walk to awaken our people to see the need to keep our environment clean. What we are talking about is attitudinal change ” he said.
