The Abia state Chairman of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) ,Comrade John Emejor ,stated that without media, democracy and development will not thrive, noted that media has remained the oxygen that drives democracy and development.
Comrade John Emejor, who made this known during the Nigeria Union of Journalists ,Abia State Council ,2019 Media Summit, held at Micheal Okpara Auditorium, Umuahia, disclosed that journalists in the State have resolved to remain professional in the discharge of their constitutional duties.
Speaking further, he reaffirmed ,that journalists are not licensed to malign any individual or institution nor indulge in the dissemination of false or fake news or hate messages, added that “what we publish ,broadcast and transmit have profound effect and influence on our polity “
Comrade Emejor, lauded the Abia state Governor, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu for his generosity to media practitioners in the State,saying that without the constant financial assistance from the media ,” Our Union would have ceased to exist “
According to him, “Abia Council of the NUJ remains the only Council in Nigeria that is still operating from a rented apartment “saying Abia Council is hopeful that ” the story must change, after today ‘s event”
