ABIA NG CARES RESULT AREA 2 COMMENCES TRAINING OF FARMERS IN ABIA STATE.

The Abia State Nigerian Covid 19 Action Recovery Economic Stimulus Area 2, Food Security of the Ministry of Agriculture anchored by Abia Fadama Office has commenced Capacity Building Programme for selected farmers across the state.

The programme is aimed at building the Capacity of the farmers in the area of Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) across values chains in Cassava, Maize, Rice Livestock Production (Poultry and Piggery) Fishery, as well as Record Keeping and Farm Management, processing and marketing.

In his opening remark the State Project Cordinator Pastor Ibe Johnson while flagging off the programme in Obingwa Local Government Area said the programme is meant to capture about six thousand, eight hundred farmers across the state.
” This Capacity Building Programme will cover the seventeen Local Government Areas of the state, it is targeted at not less than four hundred farmers in each LGA.This is according to World Bank laid down rules and procedures for accessing the NG-CARES grant.”

He used that opportunity to highlight the idea behind the project which according to him,” the project is meant for the poor and vulnerable members of the society like widows, widowers, sick poeple including those living with HIV/AIDS, aged and poeple living with disabilities and youths’

He expressed gladness at the people he met on ground and commended the facilitators for a job well done.

Speaking also, the Chairman Obingwa LGA. Ibe Micheal commended the Fadama boss for finding it necessary to kick start the programme in Obingwa.

He promised the cooperation of his administration with the Fadama office and the would be beneficiaries.

The Chairman who spoke through the Supervisory Councillor for Agriculture Hon.Ibe Nwokike urged the participants to listen attentively.

In her goodwill message, the Head, Agric. Department Mrs, Ihejiamaizu Odochi thanked the state for considering the welfare of the farmers at this period of Covid 19, and urged the participants to be active in every activity as that agriculture is the only sustainable means of livelihood for the rural dwellers.

The Lead Consultant of JAEET Nigerian Ltd, Mr Tochukwu Ikpegbu thanked the participants for their enthusiasm and prompt response.

He said the courses have been streamlined to aid comprehension of what is being taught. According to him, “all the resource persons are well-grounded in their chosen field and has been mandated to teach in a manner that the least academically qualified fellow will understand”.

Furthermore,” they are pictorial evidences and slides to guide you,I therefore charge you all to be attentive and gain from this all important programme.” He concluded.

Topics handled by different resources persons include Poultry, Piggery and Fishery Management . Farm Records and Management Practices were also handled as well as Best Agronomic Practices in Cassava Production.
