ABIA STATE GOVERNMENT TO PARTNER WITH ICAN IN MANPOWER DEVELOPMENT

The Abia State Governor ,Dr Okezie Ikpeazu has requested the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) to partner with the state Government in the area of giving professional training to Abians and the residents of Abia  ,to enable them pass and qualify as professional and chartered accountants .
Governor Okezie Ikpeazu ,who was represented by his Deputy ,Rt Hon. Ude Oko Chukwu ,made the request during the Ground -Breaking ceremony  of Umuahia ICAN Resource Centre ,known as Chidi Onyeukwu Ajaegbu ICAN Resource Centre Umuahia, held at Mgbarakuma Ubakala community.
He pointed out that ,” like what is happening in other states ,because we know that once we have your partnership ,many of our people will qualify as professional accountants, more than the number we are already getting at the moment “
He lauded the president and members of ICAN for agreeing ,approving and awarding the contract of the centre ,saying ,” as a government ,we understand and appreciate the importance of this centre ,what this centre is going to do for us ,as a government and as a people ” adding that ,” we also know that centers like this in other states have assisted the government of that particular state in training the needed manpower that the government needs in running the affairs of that state”
According to the Governor, ” we also know that centers like this once in a while conduct seminars ,trainings ,to update and upgrade the intellectual capacity of members in the accounting profession and in the management level of government  and I am convinced that this particular centre ,is going to do exactly the same as soon as it starts in Abia “
 The Governor use the opportunity to appreciate  Chief Chidi Onyeukwu Ajaegbu ,who indicated interest to counterpart the funding of the project, and also accepted to pay for the counterpart funding of the project, saying ,” as a government ,we want to appreciate him and thank him and ask him not to relent in his efforts in his contributions and assistance towards the development of the institute “
He further, appreciated the Mgbarakuma community that have agreed for the project to be situated in their domain ,urging them to ensure that the project is protected ,pointing out that whatever cooperate social
responsibility, that is going to come as far as the centre and the area is concerned ,is going to happen within and among their people.
The Governor ,commended the members of Umuahia and District ICAN society ,noting that as a very discipline profession ,they heeded and observed all the necessary protocols as far as Covid-19 is concerned, lauding them for the adequate social distancing and for  well-kitted with face masks ,while ,urging other persons ,communities or organizations that might have any course to do one event or the other within this period to help the state ,help Nigeria and the society in this very serious fight against covid-19 .
Earlier on his speech, the National president of ICAN, Mazi Nnamdi Okwuadigbo ,disclosed that ICAN has supported Nigeria’s tertiary education through the building of lecture theatres to aid learning and development of accounting and non-accounting students,as well as provide learning aids ,such as textbooks and computers systems to various libraries of tertiary institutions .
The national president ,who was represented by the chairman Umuahia ICAN District society ,Mrs Rosemary Ngozi Amakwe ,lauded the past president ,Chief Chidi Onyeukwu Ajaegbu for donating the counterpart fund for the construction of the edifice, saying in line with the institute ‘s policy ,named the resource centre , Chidi Onyeukwu Ajaegbu ICAN Resource centre Umuahia ,even as he acknowledge the generous donation of the parcel of land by the Governor of Abia state, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu, while congratulating  the chairman and members of Umuahia District society on the facilities.
Addressing Newsmen ,the chairman Umuahia  and District Society of the ICAN ,Mrs Rosemary Ngozi  Amakwe,expressed joy over the foundation laying ceremony during her tenure, saying during her investiture as the Umuahia chairman ,she made the pledge, to see the resource centre being commissioned.
According to her ,” Award has already be given and money has been released and within five months this project will be completed ” she said.
Speaking further, ” Once again I appreciate the state government for allocating this large sparse of land to our district and humbly remind it of our earlier request to provide us with mobility in terms of a coaster bus that would assist us  and A good accessible road to the District secretariat will attract faster development ” she noted
