Abia state government has gone tough on the defaulters of the Covid-19 lockdown in the state ,insisting that government is yet to ease the Covid-19 lockdown in the state.
The SouthEastbreaking News observed that many people were arrested on the streets of Umuahia today ,vehicles were equally intercepted and impounded by the Covid-19 task force team
Addressing Newsmen at Umuahia North headquarters, the Transition Committee Chairman, Hon .Lucky Akabuike ,disclosed that many people were arrested for disobeying the government by moving around the town when the State government has not relaxed the Covid-19 lockdown in the state.
According to him ,” The decision of the government is very clear ,when government announcement was made ,it was specific .I don’t know why anyone will say that he did not hear .Government specifically allowed Saturday and Sunday to give people opportunity to go and worship God .Government did not talk about freedom to move around the streets ” he said .
He decried situations people feigned ignorance and move around the streets ,urging those who are not aware of the position of the government to inquire from others.
His words ,” I know that the state media houses and online media are very clear on the decisions of the government.What the Secretary to the state government ,who is the chairman of the Covid-19 did was to give hope to the masses and said modalities will be worked out ,and those modalities can only come into effect when it has been worked out “
The Umuahia North TC Boss ,urged Abians to exercise patience ,adding the government is paying salaries to workers despite staying at home and for the business men who depend on their daily income, he said government is sympathetic ,promising that sooner or later things will be sorted out and every body will go about their normal businesses.
Speaking further on those arrested ,he said that it is the duty of the Covid-19 lockdown mobile court and His Lordship who is eminently qualify to take decision on that ,saying theirs as task force is to apprehend them and hand them over to the mobile court.
