The Federal Road Safety Corps said during the last 4 months of the year, there is always traffic upsurge as people travel for the Christmas and new year
The FRSC Abia Boss, Jatau ,who stated this in his office, said, ” Expectedly and routinely, we have about 40 thousand vehicles plying this high way,from Enugu to PortHarcourt daily, but what is expected at this critical time is that we should be expecting about 90 thousand vehicles”
“Three months ago, I was in contact with the Site Engineer of the Setraco company, working there and I tried to convince him on the need to open there before Christmas and he promised to do something”
“However, a day before yesterday, I went there to remind him, unfortunately he said they are not able to finish the work, that the head shoulder has not been done and it’s so Sharp and steep and that if they open the road, that there will be more fatalities.Vehicles may likely crash there.”
“So it means our men have to work harder to ensure that traffic flows there, that is what we are doing for now”

According to him, “What is importance is for Motorists to comply with the Traffic Regulations ,but as long as violations and breaches of traffic laws are high, there is tendency that we will record high rate of crashes”
He maintained that , ” what we are trying to do is to engage the motorists to ensure that they comply with the traffic laws and regulations, vehicles should be kept in good conditions ,they should be kept in good conditions ,they should be mechanically efficient”
He urged People to ensure that their vehicles are in good conditions ,before they start long distance trips
