Aba: Reps urge IGP to return peace and security of lives and property of residents of Aba,fish out hoodlums, provide adequate security for govt officials.

The House of Representatives has urged the Inspector General of Police through the State Commissioner of police to provide increased and adequate security and man power for government officials and infrastructure in flash points in Nigeria as well as do everything to return peace and security of lives and property of the residents of Aba.

The House also urged the Inspector General of Police and chief of Army staff to call their men to order and adopt better political/Army civil relationship with their host communities.

The Inspector General of Police has been equally urged to set up a high powered investigative team to bring those hoodlums that carried the killing in Aba to book.

The resolutions followed the adoption of a motion by Rep.Emeka Nnamani during plenary in Abuja on Thursday,27 July,2023,on “Matter of urgent Public importance: The murder of policemen by Hoodlums who attacked the convoy of Commissioner for trade, commerce and industry in Aba,Abia state”

He said that the violent attack by Hoodlums in South Eastern Nigeria has assumed a very dangerous trend.

He noted that attack on highly placed Nigerians is escalating at an increased proportion and if such trend is not quickly nipped in the bud, could result to threat to governments, personnel and others at all levels.

He said, he is aware that government provides police protection around government officials, but the security is usually inadequate, especially at flash points of insecurity in Nigeria.

He further said he is aware that there has been attacks on prominent Nigerians by Unknown gunmen in the South East Nigeria,citing examples with the attack on Senator Ifeanyi Uba, Senator Rochas Okorocha, chief Ikedi Ohakim, Apostle Johnson Suleman among others,added that in all these attacks brave police men have been lost.

According to him,” On Tuesday 25th July,2023,the Abia state command of Nigerian police confirmed that two of its personnel were attacked and killed while on the convoy of State Commissioner for trade ,commerce and industry,Dr Chimezie Ukaegbu.

“The attack occurred about 4 pm near SAMEC in the Ariaria axis of the Aba metropolis while the Commissioner was conducting familiarization tour of markets in Aba.

“That in addition to the loss of lives of the two policemen involved,the assailants also set ablaze a vehicle belonging to the Abia state ministry of trade, commerce and industry”

He said,he is worried,”That as an aftermath of this cowardly killing of the two policemen,terror was unleashed on the innocent people of Aba by security operatives such as Police and Army in Aba metropolis till date resulting in the total shut down of the market.

He expressed anxious and called on the Inspector General of Police and the chief of Army staff to intervene and call their men to order as continued attack on innocent residents and passers- by of Aba could generate into full blown riot and unnecessary breakdown of law and order.
