29 STUDENTS CAPPED AT THE SCHOOL OF BASIC MIDWIFERY AMACHARA UMUAHIA FOR 2019 SET

The School of Basic Midwifery Amachara Umuahia ,Abia state has capped/Matriculated 29 students into the School of basic midwifery for 2019 Set
This was made known by the Principal ,Mrs Nwakaego Onyeukwu during the capping ceremony which took place at the Matriculation Ground ,School of Basic Midwifery Amachara, Umuahia.
Mrs Onyeukwu ,who expressed her great pleasure ,said the basic midwifery programme is specially established to produce skilled manpower who will proficiently attend to pregnant women even at the grass root ,thus reducing maternal mortality and morbidity. .
According to her ,” It is a 3 year programme after which the student is registered as a midwifery by Nursing and midwifery Council of Nigeria “
She maintained that ” we have examination regulations which says ,if you fail more than half of the courses ,the person sat for ,the person will be asked to withdraw .If you fail half of the courses ,you will have to repeat the semester ,if you fail less than half ,you will have to resit and if you fail any of them ,you will have to repeat. So these ones passed the semester examinations and that is why they are being capped today .We will also give them index. It means that we will register their names in Nursing and midwifery Council.Anyone without that number is not a student of Nursing “
In his speech ,the permanent secretary ministry of Health Abia state ,Chief Eze Sonny Egbulefu ,commended those students who were capped ,urging them to work hard.
He said that the state government has promised to ensure conducive environment for teaching and learning for them.
In her speech,Ugoeze Ulaocha ,who represented the President of the Alumni Association of the School of Basic Midwifery, Amachara, Lady Princess Stella Ufomadu ,tasked the students to take their studies seriously, so as to excel in their examinations.
Speaking at the ceremony, the keynote speaker ,Mrs Onwusogh Chizaram ,who is a lecturer at the school, revealed that ”  Nursing and midwifery profession is the 5th leading profession in the world and it can not be over emphasized that this profession is the most noble profession in the world today “
According to her ,” Over the years ,midwifery grew as one of the most essential professions in health care delivery with its practitioners becoming specialists in the reproductive health of world in the safest obtainable setting “
She further ,said that ” the function and duties of midwives include to provide antenatal care to expecting mothers and attend the birth of the infants ,they work with pregnant women to give them the necessary support ,care and advice during pregnancy ,labour ,conduct deliveries and provide comprehensive health care to the new born child ,providing preventive ,curative and rehabilitative care with regards to minor newborn and mother ailments ,among other things “
In her appreciation ,one of the students ,Faith Iheanacho Ogechi ,thanked the principal and the entire school management for their commitments and efforts  towards giving them proper training.
