The Vice Chancellor of Michael Okpara university of Agriculture Umudike, Professor Maduebibisi Ofo Iwe has disclosed that out of the 8229 graduands produced in the 11th convocation ceremony,121 of them came out with First class.
Speaking during the 11th convocation ceremony of the Institution held at the University Mini stadium,he listed the graduands as 6917 Bachelors Degree,159 post graduate Diploma,802 Master’s Degree and 491 Doctorate Degree.
The 6th Vice Chancellor of Michael Okpara university, said despite some of the major challenges the Institution has been facing such as paucity of funds,the school has witnessed alot of infrastructural development under his administration.
He revealed that within the first 100 days in office,his administration hosted accreditation teams from the National Universities Commission for evaluation of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Agribusiness Management and Management sciences,added that ,” We have hosted accreditation exercises in 2021 and 2023 and one verification exercise and all our 57 programmes are fully accredited”
Continuing, he informed that,” We have constructed, reconstructed, furnished and refurbished students’ hostels, completed and furnished the large Lecture three -winged hall. We are in the process of furnishing a 1,500 – capacity theatre.We built a bungalow staff office for the College of Veterinary medicine. We have completed and are test running a water processing laboratory, opening and test running a bread and biscuit processing lines , renovating and upgrading the University Guest House among others”
He listed some modest achievements under his administration to include, Strengthening the university’s Webometric ranking, revitalizing information dissemination channels, rehabilitating campus shuttle services with air -conditioned vehicles, construction of postgraduate hostel , construction of internal roads on campus among others.
Earlier on his address,the President and Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and Visitor to the University,Bola Ahmed Tinubu , congratulated the graduands,their parents and guardians as well as commended the Management and Staff of the University for the success of the 11th convocation ceremony.
He said his administration is deeply aware of the unique role that qualitative education can play in developing men and women of character,added that good education is a necessity especially in a competitive world for creative thinking and innovative correct decision making required to properly addressing the complex and complicated socio-economic and political problems confronting the nation.
President Tinubu who was represented by the Executive Secretary Agricultural Research Council of Nigeria, Professor Garba Sharubutu pointed out that his administration is aware of the myriad of socio-economic and political problems that the citizens are passing through, said his administration is determined to find a lasting solution to the tough times.
