SENATOR T. A. ORJI SPONSORED TRAINING AND EMPOWERMENT OF YOUTHS AND WOMEN IN AGRO-MECHANIZED BUSINESS IN ILORIN, KWARA STATE:
According to Edward W. Stewart, ” Agriculture was the first occupation of man, and as it embraces the whole earth, it is the foundation of all industries. In his profound Agreement to the necessity of food security to man’s existence, Elias Hasket Derby posited that “Agriculture has become essential to life; the forest, the lake, and the ocean cannot sustain the increasing family of man; population declines with a declining cultivation, and nations have ceased to be with the extinction of their Agriculture.” In his wit, J. Buel synchronized this position when he asserted that, “Agriculture is Archimedean lever which, though it does not move a world, tends to fill it with plenty, with moral health, and human happiness.” Bernard Baruch himself, aggregated the whole thoughts in summation holding that, “Agriculture is the greatest and fundamentally the most important of our industries. The cities are but branches of the tree of national life, the roots of which go deeply into the land. We all flourish or decline with the farmer.” Lewis Cass analytically narrowed our thoughts mindfully at this target “Agriculture is the great art of directing and aiding nature in the performance of those functions which were designed by providence for the comfort and subsistence of man.”
In his latent phenomenal belief that we all owe a duty to cultivate a positive attitude in every latitude to contribute meaningfully to Agriculture, Most Distinguished, Senator T. A. Orji, absolutely tilts towards these eminent scholars of renowned by galvanizing all these words of wisdom to action. He insists that our youth must earn for himself a reputation driven passionately by achieving self sufficiency in the field of Agriculture; ensuring that he puts food on his table with his hands tilling the land and cultivating vehemently in Agriculture. To this end, Senator T. A. Orji, has again, sponsored over One Hundred Participants/Trainees fully in the Training and Empowerment of Youths and Women on Agro Mechanized Business for Abia Central Senatorial District, Abia State from 6th to 10th September, 2020 @ the prestigious and globally reputed NATIONAL CENTRE FOR AGRICULTURAL MECHANIZATION (NCAM) ILORIN, KWARA STATE, NIGERIA. The Intensive Training Programme was both Theoretical as well as Practical in the following Areas of Agriculture:
- Basic Principles of Fish Production.
- Climate Change, Adaptation and Mitigation.
- Green House.
- Processing and Packaging of Agricultural Products: Vegetables and Fresh Fish.
- Introduction and Planning of Poultry Production.
- Local Poultry Improvement.
- Zero Waste Concept, A key to Sustainable Agricultural Production ( Agro-waste Management and Utilization)
- Base Principles of Crop Production.
- Market Garden – Marketing of Agricultural Produce.
- Record Keeping of Agricultural Produce.
- Backyard Rabbit Production.
- Integrated Farming System.
On the overall, Senator T. A. Orji, agrees with Thomas Jefferson that ” Agriculture is our wisest pursuit, because it will in the end cultivate most to real wealth, good morals, and happiness. Hence he sponsored these youths and women to go acquire knowledge and mental resource capacities veritable in driving Agriculture beyond the 21st Century. This he has done again and again with avowed relentlessness.
It is therefore very heart warming to note that All the participants/Trainees have been charged to go home to their various wards and communities and replicate what they have learnt in principles and practice from the Intensive Training by training others within their proximities and Establishing their own Integrated Farms without delay, investing the starter packs they received as beginners incentives.
One of the active traits of Senator Theodore Ahamefule Orji, Ochendo Abia, representing Abia Central Senatorial District @ the National Assembly, which endears him to his constituents, is his solid dependability: He is absolutely dependable in every sense, spirit and letters of the word. He says what he means and means what he says absolutely positively whatever it takes. This is his nature.
