The Wife of the Governor of Abia State, Mrs. Priscilla Chidinma Otti, has visited the Arochukwu Correctional Facility to reassure inmates of their worth and reaffirm their place in society.
Representing Her Excellency, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Women Affairs, Mrs. Chinenye Nwaka, urged the inmates to embrace positive transformation and avoid actions that could lead to reoffending.
She emphasized that correctional facilities exist not as places of rejection, but as centres for reformation and preparation for a more productive life after custody.
She expressed confidence that the inmates would emerge from the process renewed, responsible, and better equipped to contribute meaningfully to society, adding that the visit was to assure them that they are not abandoned or forgotten.
In her remarks, the Controller of the Abia State Correctional Facility, Mrs. Nwanyanwu Ifeoma Blessing, commended Mrs. Otti for her sustained compassion and unwavering support for inmates across the state.
She described the Wife of the Governor as a reliable partner of the correctional system, noting that her interventions extend beyond the Arochukwu facility to other centres in Abia State.
She highlighted that these interventions have included skill acquisition programmes, provision of food items, cash assistance, and reading materials, all targeted at rehabilitation and successful reintegration.
Mrs. Nwanyanwu further expressed gratitude for the cash and food supplies donated during the visit, noting that the gesture would greatly enhance the feeding and overall welfare of the inmates.
